Finding Balance Through the Seasons: Fitness, Mindset, and Grace
October Reflections
What an incredible month October was. It flew by fast, but I embraced every second of it.
I started the month at a fitness convention, and I absolutely love attending these in person. It’s such a powerful reminder of why I do what I do — being surrounded by others who share the same passion and purpose fills me up in a way that online learning just can’t.
For once, I allowed myself to simply sit, listen, and absorb everything. It was a chance to slow down, refocus, and organize my thoughts — something I don’t often give myself time to do. The space to reflect and plan for the future felt refreshing and necessary.
When I returned home, I jumped right into Halloween decorating, which always brings me so much joy. I love seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces — their laughter, their energy, and the way they light up our home. Moments like that remind me to hold onto the fun and magic in each season.
One thing I’m most proud of is rebuilding my connection with my faith.
Each morning, I’ve been
reading scripture. I grew up with a Christian background, but in my younger years, I pushed it away. Over time, though, I’ve felt Him reaching out to me, giving me signs — one of which I shared in my podcast with Trevor from MMVMT. More recently, my heart felt heavy after the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk. With the media noise fueling even more hate, I chose to lean deeper into faith.
Here’s what I have learned: if we ground ourselves in belief, no matter the storm, something good will come. The storm may blind us, the noise may distract us, but when we surround ourselves with people who lift us up, the light shines brighter, and the darkness lifts. That’s the path I’m choosing.
With bow season here, I’m looking forward to hunting with my husband and enjoying the outdoors together. At home, I’ve been soaking up time with the kiddos — even in the midst of their little personalities that constantly test me. One highlight was taking them on their first benefit ride for suicide awareness. We’ve done this ride many times, but doing it with kids is a whole new experience! Between the “I’m boreds” and the tiredness, we still managed to enjoy the day, take in the fall colors, and be home early. I call that a win.
We wrapped up September with Halloween decorating. Even though I caught a cold, I pulled together just enough energy to make it festive. Having kids during these seasons really changes things. Their laughter and excitement bring me joy — and also teach me to let go of control and let them help (even when it’s messy!).
At the end of the day, life is about learning, growing, and becoming the healthiest version of yourself. Every season brings something new. Instead of resenting change, I’m choosing to welcome it, embrace it, and find the good.
We wrapped up September with Adam and me celebrating our 10-year anniversary, and it was everything I could have hoped for. We spent the day shooting our bows in the woods, savored a home-cooked meal with our kiddos, and ended the evening with family snuggles on the couch. In those simple, intentional moments, I was reminded of what truly matters — presence, love, and gratitude. It made my heart happy and my cup full.
We also took the kids on the STEFs Fall Benefit Ride for suicide awareness. We’ve done this ride many times, but experiencing it with kids was a whole new adventure! Between the “I’m boreds” and the tiredness, we still managed to enjoy the day, take in the fall colors, and be home early. I call that a win.
Even though I caught a cold, I pulled together just enough energy to end the final weekend of September with some Halloween decorating. I love seeing the excitement on the kids’ faces, hearing their laughter, and watching their creativity come alive. This is also a moment that’s teaching me to let go of control — it won’t be perfect, but letting them shine their light and be creative allows them to grow, and reminds me that joy can come from the messy, imperfect moments too.
- What did I learn about myself today?
- How did I take care of my mind, body, or spirit today?
- What is one good thing from today that I can be grateful for?
or
- I learned something valuable today.
- I cared for my mind, body, and spirit today.
- I am grateful for the good in today.
Entering October I am intentionally going to continue to work on my readings and building my faith, I am going to continue to work on my mental health learning balance and boundaries, making sure I fill my cup.
Heading into October, I’m setting intentions:
✨ Continue building my faith with daily readings.
✨ Focus on balance, boundaries, and filling my cup.
✨ Grow professionally at the SCW Fitness Mania Convention in Chicago — not just by pushing through the hardest workouts, but by learning, taking notes, and gaining tools I can bring back to share with all of you.
It’s been humbling to reflect on my growth as a professional. In the past, I felt like I had to give 100% in every single workout presentation to “prove” myself. Now, I realize I don’t have to leave every session physically drained to gain value. I’m here to learn, process, and truly understand — so I can take what I’ve learned and make a greater impact when I return.
So here’s to pumpkin spice, fall colors, and flannel season
(though let’s be real — I wear mine all year long 😆).
